Outfit your students for life in the wild, wild Web where they need the savvy to shoot straight, watch their backs, and to be at home on the digital range. The choices today’s learners make, and actions they take online, have enduring impact on their lives and the lives of others. Unique, unforeseeable, and evolving risks and challenges are part and parcel of the open Internet.
Of course, it’s our job as educators to help them master the wealth of digital academic opportunities: conducting research, collaborating with others, assessing credibility, citing evidence, and more. This course outfits you to help them be fluent in standards of communication and etiquette, legal and personal safety, “civic” responsibility, and issues surrounding commerce and privacy—both in the personal and public spheres.
You’ll learn about the subject yourself, and find concrete ideas for teaching online etiquette, digital law, digital footprints, responsible commerce, and more. And, the Assessments of Knowledge (AOKs) for every course section include options that are coursework, yes, but that are also curriculum materials that you can actually use with your real live students.
