Full course description
On three. Okay, one, two, three, smile! For your students with a smartphone, Instagram is likely part of daily life already. Before we rail against selfies and compulsive use of social media among youth, let's look at the power of pictures and the engagement possibilities to be found in meeting students where they are.
This course shows you how to navigate the basic functions of this image-based social sharing tool: setting up an account, sharing, commenting, and more. As always, if you don't need to learn this material, skip it and incorporate what you already know into your AOK at the end of the course. You do not have to start at the beginning to earn a micro-badge for knowledge you already have! (You see what we did there!)
From there, you'll explore ways to use Instagram to build community with students and parents, guidelines to keep Insta-interactions on your school account safe and productive, and tips for incorporating it into all content areas.
As always with PD Learning Network courses, you needn't complete assignment modules that cover material you've already mastered. Skip those and focus on the resources that provide you with new information and grow your professional skills in the ways you need.
To demonstrate your competence with Instagram, you can choose an AOK project that provides you with work you can apply in your teaching practice right away. The micro-badge you walk away with shows you know Instagram inside and out, and can apply it to your students' learning and your professional development as well.
