Full course description
As the web nudges educators and books out of the role of primary sources of knowledge for today's students, the nature of learning and teaching is transformed. Students who were once considered passive receptors of knowledge have the opportunity to exercise unprecedented agency over their learning. Indeed, doing so best prepares them to be self-directed and innovative in college, career, and relationships.
Teachers, in turn, are not purveyors of subject matter, but experts in how to acquire needed knowledge and facilitators of inquiry. Hence the rhyme, "no more sage on the stage but a guide on the side."
In this course, you'll explore through readings and video the nature of today's learners and how teachers can best flex and adapt to meet, nay! lead changing expectations and needs in education.
Your Assessment of Knowledge options, as usual, include an opportunity to create work you can apply with your students. Your micro-badge demonstrates you possess a comprehensive understanding of 21st century learners and teachers, and can apply this knowledge in your professional practice.
