    Now in its 24th year, TASA's First-time Superintendents Academy is where beginning superintendents go to learn successful practices, understand the complex day-to-day requirements of the position, develop leadership skills unique to the superintendency, and build a network of support. The increasingly complex environment of today's public schools requires superintendents to wear many different hats and fill many roles. TASA's FTSA addresses those complex needs through well-rounded agendas and highly experienced presenters and facilitators.

    Studies show that superintendents who establish networks of support are more likely to become successful school leaders. In the academy, we explore topics related to school transformation, board relations, and strategies for effective leadership. We orient new superintendents to the relationships, practices, and priorities that are crucial to early and continued success. Academy presenters and facilitators include experienced superintendents and other experts on education policy, school law, instructional leadership, digital learning, human resource development, budgeting and finance, and facility planning. 

    Our four-part 2015-16 academy series begins August 5. This is the third year we will hold a session before the school year begins. Consensus from last year's academy was clear: The early start is highly beneficial to a successful start to the school year. Participants may connect with fellow academy participants through an online forum, TASA Connect, throughout the year.

    We hope you will join other first- and second-year superintendents from around the state for this valuable academy. You'll gain new perspectives as well as cultivate a network of peers that will serve you well in the coming years. We look forward to welcoming you to the 24th Annual First-time Superintendents Academy in August!
