Full course description

The 16 Habits of Mind are critical to school success, and, most importantly, to college, career, and personal success throughout life. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), when embedded in school-wide curricula, improves culture AND increases academic performance by 11 percentile points! (Durlak et al, 2011)

Familiarize yourself with these two essential approaches (which many good teachers have always used) in this course. You'll learn key cognitive and social-emotional tenets and ways to apply them with your students. Watch a case study of Chicago schools (Illinois integrated SEL standards in 2004.), discover 101 ways to teach social skills, and find guidance to develop accountable talk. The micro-badge you'll earn signifies that you're on top of these essential college- and career-readiness skills.
